Multimedia
Once
an image collection has been digitized it provides a ready source
of material that can be used to create multi media presentations.
A good
example of how this can be put into practice is the Sheffield
Time Machine which is a virtual tour of historic Sheffield.
This production has been created by the Local Studies Department
at Sheffield Central Library and has been mastered to CDROM for
sale to the general public. The Sheffield Time Machine takes you
on a tour of the city centre as it was in the closing years of the
nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth.
Picture Sheffield
is a digitisation programme to allow on-line access to part of the
collections held by Sheffield Local Studies Library. The project,
which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, aims to put around
10,000 pictures on the Internet.
This site is
being used as a test-bed for the project. All the images held here
are in the ownership of Sheffield Libraries and should not be
downloaded or used without written permission.
